=============================================================================== Lodoss Wars I Write-up Rick Hong ====================== Jan, 1996 rhong@uiuc.edu Characters =-=-=-=-=- These are in the order that they join your party. Parn (P)\ Etho (E) \ Deedlit (D) \____ Weapons usable by a character are denoted with Ghim (G) /---- these letters when you buy the weapons. Slayn (S) / Woodchuck (W)/ Weapons/Armor/Rings/Specials =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- As usual, the higher the price, the more powerful the weapon. When purchasing these, the letters and underscores shown next to the prices tell which character can use that item. + and - denote magic use. Some of these +/- weapons decrease MP when used in battle, so if you run out of MP, you cannot attack. I don't think it means cursed, but you are able to unequip these weapons. Also, enemies can cast spells keeping you from using your MP, and if all party members are using weapons requiring MP, you will not be able to attack, until you equip non-MP using weapons. Towns =-=-= Bar- Sign w/ Bottle and Glass The last option in the menu is to drink. This heals the whole party fully (LP & MP), but costs a lot when the party is in poor condition. The other options allow you to talk to people at the bar. You can listen for rumors and hear about new quests. Some of the party members are found at bars. BTW: You can't enter a bar with a dead player! (hehe) Market- Sign w/ Crossed Swords. Buy/Sell items. The more expensive, the better the item. First couple of people sell Weapons/Armor/Rings. Specials can only be found in battle. The last person on the list is the potion dealer. Square- Icon of a fountain. Place where you can pull up your menu without leaving town. Temple- Icon Changes for different towns. Place to heal, revive people back to life, find out some information about your characters (if you can read Japanese). Library-Icon Changes for different towns. Find out information about monsters and spells. Japanese kinda required. Castle- Icon Changes for different towns. Some castles heal your party. Others are places where the king assigns you a quest. Spells =-=-=- I can't go type all the spells out. I can't even read them, so you gotta figure these out yourself. I can help you out with the types a little though. +----+ Type Etho Deedlit Slayn |### | Attack Spells 4 9 9\ |### | ? 4 5 5 \ Total Spells of this type |### | ? 4 4 3 == No new spells after |### | Heal Spells 8 0 0 / Level 13 |### | Summon Spells 0 4 3/ +----+ Menus =-=-= Pressing button I brings up a menu when you are traveling. This same menu comes up when you are in a town square. I'll just put a # where characters appear. You can kind of figure it out by the number of #s in a line for some menus. +----+ |####| 1) Heal- allows you to heal member. |####| 2) Options - Various options. |####| 3) Order - Changes character order as shown on right side of screen. |####| 4) Teleport - Teleport to a town. +----+ Heal - Choose member you want to heal, then... +--------+ |########| Etho - Have Etho cast a heal spell. |###### | Potion - Use a potion from the inventory. +--------+ a) Etho - Etho will cast a heal spell of your choice. b) Potion - the number in the () show how many of that potion you have. +----------------+ Write Japanese symbol |######### ( )| Heals LP. The algorithm used for movement is sad. Characters waste their turn too often because of this. When a party member dies during battle, s/he doesn't get experience for that particular battle. The EP is split among the living characters after that battle. To restore a dead character, you either need to go to a town temple or you can cast Etho's revive spell if you have it. You can also go to places where healing is free (the shrine, certain castles, Deedlit or Parn's home). If you are in Auto Battle, and you want to control battle the next round, hold Button II down. Holding Either Button I or II during battle speeds up the text. After you encounter an enemy, the following menu appears... +----+ |## | Fight - Fight the enemy. |####| ? |####| ? |####| Auto Battle - Let's the computer take over the battle. |####| Change Auto Battle Options. |### | Run - Run away. +----+ Fight - Goes down the list of characters, allowing you to choose their course of action. I found out that if you move one space, go to the Options menu (the Save/Load menu), exit, walk one space, go to the Options menu, exit, and continue this, you can revive your whole party's MP. Very nice when you're low on MP and LP, since Etho can heal LP using spells which require MP. Final Notes =-=-=-=-=-= Holding Button II down while traveling makes the character walk faster. I'd just restore whenever a player lost a level. Ghosts and witches can steal levels from your party members. I found out that you may visit the shrine to get the level back. Healing with Etho's first spell many times is more effective than using his more powerful healing spells. Using his 1MP healing spell many times saves much more MPs than casting more powerful healing spells. (only useful when not in battle) Summoning Elementals is a good idea, because it gives you an NPC to attack the enemies, and it gives the enemies another target. Poisoned Characters lose a Life Point every couple of steps of travel. +-----------------------------+ | If there are any errors or | | additions you'd like to see | | mail me at rhong@uiuc.edu | | Rick | +-----------------------------+
